1. What is cold asphalt patch?
Cold asphalt patch is a ready-to-use asphalt repair material designed for repairing potholes, cracks, utility cuts, road edges and other damaged pavement areas. Unlike traditional hot mix asphalt, it does not require heating before application, making it convenient for fast and emergency road repairs.
2. What is cold asphalt patch used for?
Cold asphalt patch is commonly used for:
- Pothole repair
- Asphalt pavement repair
- Driveway and parking lot repair
- Utility cut reinstatement
- Road edge repair
- Trench reinstatement
- Manhole adjustments
- Emergency pavement maintenance
It can be used for both asphalt and concrete pavement repairs.
3. Can cold asphalt patch be applied in wet weather?
Yes. Go Green® Superior Cold Mix Asphalt is designed for all-weather pavement repair and can be applied even when the repair area is wet. Its anti-stripping technology helps displace water during compaction, allowing repairs to be carried out in challenging weather conditions.
4. Does cold asphalt patch require heating?
No. Cold asphalt patch is supplied ready to use and does not require heating before application. This eliminates the need for asphalt heating equipment and makes it suitable for emergency repairs and locations where hot mix asphalt is not readily available.
5. Does cold asphalt patch require a primer or tack coat?
No. Go Green® Superior Cold Mix Asphalt contains a built-in bonding system and does not require a separate primer or tack coat before application. This helps simplify the repair process and reduce labor and material requirements.
6. How do you apply cold asphalt patch?
Cold asphalt patch can be installed in three basic steps:
Clean: Remove loose stones, dirt and debris from the pothole.
Fill: Pour the cold asphalt patch into the repair area and slightly overfill it to allow for compaction.
Compact: Tamp the material with a hand tamper, plate compactor or vehicle tire. Once properly compacted, the repaired area can be opened to traffic immediately.
7. Can cold asphalt patch be used in deep potholes?
Yes. For deeper potholes, cold asphalt patch should be installed and compacted in layers. The recommended compacted layer thickness is approximately 50 mm. For repairs deeper than 50 mm, apply and compact successive layers to achieve better stability and performance.
8. How soon can traffic drive over a cold asphalt patch?
The repaired area can be opened to traffic immediately after proper compaction. Traffic can provide additional natural compaction and help improve aggregate interlock as the repair continues to stabilize.
9. How long does cold asphalt patch last?
The service life depends on pavement condition, traffic loading, drainage, repair preparation and installation quality. Go Green® Superior Cold Mix Asphalt is formulated as a high-performance, permanent pothole repair material and is designed to provide durable performance comparable to the surrounding pavement when properly installed.
10. Can cold asphalt patch be used for asphalt and concrete?
Yes. Go Green® cold asphalt patch can be used for repairing both bituminous asphalt pavement and concrete pavement. This makes it a versatile solution for road maintenance, driveways, parking areas and other pavement applications.
11. What is the difference between cold asphalt patch and hot mix asphalt?
The main difference is the application method. Hot mix asphalt must be heated to a high temperature before installation, while cold asphalt patch is ready to use without heating.
Cold asphalt patch offers several advantages for maintenance work:
- No heating equipment required
- Faster and easier application
- Suitable for emergency repairs
- Can be stored for future maintenance
- Can be used in a wide range of weather conditions
- Allows immediate reopening to traffic
12. Can cold asphalt patch be stored for future repairs?
Yes. Go Green® Superior Cold Mix Asphalt has a shelf life of up to two years when properly sealed and stored. This makes it suitable for municipal maintenance departments, contractors and distributors that need to keep repair materials available for emergency work.
13. What aggregate sizes are available for cold asphalt patch?
Go Green® Superior Cold Mix Asphalt is available in different aggregate gradations for different repair requirements, including approximately 5 mm, 10 mm and 13 mm grades.
Smaller aggregate grades are suitable for smaller or shallower repairs, while larger aggregate grades are better suited for deeper potholes and heavier-duty pavement repairs.
14. How much cold asphalt patch is needed for a pothole?
The required quantity depends on the pothole's length, width and repair depth. As a general reference, approximately 60 kg of Go Green® Superior Cold Mix Asphalt can cover about 1 m² at a compacted depth of 25 mm.
For accurate material estimation, the dimensions and depth of the repair area should be measured before application.
15. Is cold asphalt patch suitable for emergency road repair?
Yes. Cold asphalt patch is particularly suitable for emergency pavement maintenance because it requires no heating, minimal equipment and a simple installation process. Once compacted, the repaired area can be reopened to traffic immediately.
16. Why choose Go Green® Cold Asphalt Patch?
Go Green® Superior Cold Mix Asphalt combines convenient application with high-performance pavement repair. It is designed for all-weather use, requires no heating or separate primer, provides strong adhesion, and can be opened to traffic immediately after compaction.
It provides contractors, municipalities and road maintenance teams with an efficient solution for pothole repair and year-round pavement maintenance.
